 Horsemanship Clinic – June 2009

“What a great trip!  This was the perfect combination of experiencing, first hand, local Western history, challenging terrain and excellent horsemanship training.  The trip continues to prompt some great memories on a daily basis.  I definitely will be back for a repeat next year!”

The Horsemanship Clinic was wonderful!  We experienced all kinds of weather, mostly good, with some cool days, some rain and an hour or so of riding in hail beside a fast running creek.  But this was more than a Horsemanship Clinic.  We rode to some historic sites and ghost towns.  Riding up to the old 1880s saloon, tying our horses out front and walking into the bar to eat in our ‘period’ clothing was great. We actually stepped back in time!  I also did something I thought I would never have done-climb a mountain via horseback by traversing back and forth to get to the top.  I was tuckered out and so were the horses!  I also accomplished my goal of learning to ride a lot better, especially once I was told what I was doing wrong after all these years of riding.  I definitely feel more comfortable in the saddle.  I’ve been riding with Great American Adventures for a few years now and I really enjoy seeing old comrades from the past rides.  All I can say is, Steve – keep up the good work.  I’m thinking about doing it again next year.  Heck, I’ve already signed up for your “Wyatt Earp’s Vendetta Ride.” Thanks for the experience!

I had a terrific experience out in the South Pass area of Wyoming.  Kevin McNiven, our wrangler, gave each of us individual attention and encouragement, and by the end of our week, each of us was riding at a canter and gallop, far better than we had dared hope when we began the week.  Kevin's coaching was geared to each rider's needs, strengths and weaknesses. We rode into many historic areas, such as South Pass City and Atlantic City, abandoned mining claims and towns, rode along beautiful wild areas such as the Sweetwater River Canyon, and saw the Willie Handcart memorial at the 6th crossing of the Sweetwater. We located wild horses, and rode through the gorgeous Wyoming country along the Mormon Trail, Oregon Trail, California Trail and Pony Express routes.  Great American Adventures provides the greatest experience for my vacation dollar that I've ever spent.  In my opinion, you can spend a lot more, but you won't have a better experience.  The friendships you'll make, and the memories you'll bring back, will last for a lifetime.
