How Do Horses Work Rust?
Horses are a type of animal found in Experimental Rust. They are a passive animal that will not try to attack the player; however if you approach close to it or try to shoot at it, it will attempt to flee the player for its life. Horses can be spotted in various colours, including grey, dark brown, and light brown.
How do you control a horse in Rust?
You press W to move forward; A and D to steer (there is no reverse gear on horses at the moment). Press control to have the horse rear on it’s two hind legs and let out a loud neigh. If you want to dismount, simply press spacebar. To gallop, hold shift and they’ll go faster (while they have the stamina – see below).

The skeletons do not despawn if PersistenceRequired is set. A trap horse may spawn in areas that a regular horse may not, such as the middle of an ocean. A trap horse can trigger normally in clear weather (and often a player encounters a trap horse after the thunderstorm has cleared).

Nutritionally speaking, it most definitely could be a lack of minerals in the diet. Your horse may simply be bored or even just like the taste/feel of metal. Licking metal may help your horse salivate as well. Many of today’s pastures are deficient in minerals due to pollution and chemical fertilizers.
